The Trocadero Ball 2003

It was a cold October evening when I took a long traintrip to Wuppertal in Germany to be once again part of the Trocadero Ball.
When the 20-to-40 Style Syndicate (click on the logo to visit their site) organizes a Ball people from all over Europe make sure they wont miss it!
Their events are fantastic, its like dancing back into history!

On Friday this group of Retro's went to the Theatre, all dressed up in fantastic 1930's and 1940's clothes of course!

We went to the Apollo (click on the logo to visit their site), where we all enjoyed a amazing evening of Varieté.
Really like it would have been in the years between the wars.

As every good Varieté evening there was so much to see!
We had Igor the Clown, Jeton the Gentleman-jongleur, Danilsen the shadow master, Aurelia the trapeze artiste, Olga & Dimitri the acrobats and ofcourse a lot of wonderful 1930's swinging music by Ondrej Havelka and his Melody makers (click on the photo to visit their site).

This band was as fantastic as the picture above suggests.
Besides looking brilliantly stylish as only 1930s bands can look, they also played some lovely music.
It was very hard not to dance!
The evening truly felt like a evening back in time!
Ofcourse I didnt leave till Ondrej signed the progamm for me!

On Saturday we had the big night; The Ball!
Hours in advance the gentlemen and ladies prepared their fantastic vintage clothing and incredible hairstyles.

We went to a old Tanzlokal, a dancehall that hasn't changed much since the 1930's.
It looked very nice!
All the guests looked really nice, perfect hairs, stylish dresses, brilliant music, superb dancing and above all a unique atmosphere!
Thanks to the music by DJ Little Simon we couldn't stop dancing.
I loved it, I think everybody did!

At 12 o'clock it was my birthday, much to my suprise I was given a public serenade by Gentleman Henry de Winter.
A very nice and unique present that made me blush and grin for hours afterwards!

The Trocadero Ball was such a success that even Ondrej Havelka decided to come and have a look!
It was very nice to see that the bandleader of the Melody Makers had decided to visit us!

Here are some pictures of the evening, click on them to see larger versions in color.

The Trocadero Ball was a huge success, I can't wait for the next one

It was fantastic...although I was a bit sad when the Ball ended I was also happy to go to bed!
If only we could have such a ball every weekend...if only we could have parties like that here in Holland!

After some much needed sleep we went to enjoy some traditional 'Kaffe und kuchen' (coffee and cakes) on Sunday.
Ofcourse we went in Retro Style again!

After another fantastic Swing weekend with my Retro friends in Wuppertal I went home.
A long trip back to Amsterdam, but more then worth it!
I can't wait for the next Trocadero Ball!

Thank you everybody who made this weekend possible.
A special thanks to my wonderful hosts Katy, Frank und Karl!
