Hats, hairstyle, make-up

Hats where very important in the 1930s/1940s, most women didnt go out without them!
There were so many different styles of hats and most women had a hat for almost any occasion.
Hairstyles were very glamorous and complicated and women's hair sometimes looked like a piece of art.
Make-up was done very differently from today.

On this page I will tell you a little bit more about these subjects, I will show you many pictures and will show you how to try some of the styles yourself.

Hats

People loved hats in the 1930's and 1940's, you didn't leave home without something on your head.
And although men didnt have much choice, fashion gave women some amazing styles to choose from.
Findind such a hat can be difficult, they are however not so difficult to make...some of them anyway.
Here you will see some pictures of women's hats from the 1930's and 1940's, mostly from Dutch sources.

Hairstyle

There were also a LOT of different hairstyles, usually very extreme compared to todays fashion. Getting a vintage hairstyle may be very difficult for us modern gals. In the 1930s the secret word was waves, in the 1940s hair became bigger and bigger!
Here you will find lots of examples of haistyles.
Below the picture of some of the stuff you need to make hairstyles you will find examples and a step by step picture guide of the hairstyles I tried out.

Klick on this picture to see how I tried to reproduce this hairstyle.
I wear it now almost every day so the quality has improved a lot and also my technique.

Make-up

Soon a retro make-up guide will be placed here.
