Although
I was born in the 1970s I have never really felt at ease with the
present.
I never liked modern music, fashion, architecture...well I didnt really
like anything modern.
Todays design lacks style and class, everything seems to be practical,
square and plastic.
I was no
fun at parties as a teenager, I hated the loud music, I complained
nobody knew how to dance and kept telling boys they had no proper
manners...
So there I was, a 14 year old girl, behaving like a 80 year old woman...
Then
there was a fifties revival and for the first time I felt a connection
to the music I heard, the clothing people wore and the design.
Within minutes my room looked like a 1950's teenbopper room, posters
of James Dean, the music of Eddie Cochrane and lots of bobbysocks!
But after a while this craze was out of fashion again and my classmates
became interested in the 60's...long hair...flares...peace and loving...
I
too wanted to move on...or rather move backwards.
Not
the 1960s for me but the 1940s and 1930s.
Soon
I realised I had finally
found
the style I was looking for all these years, everything all of a sudden
made sense. The music I liked all these years...from the 1930's, the
Fashionstyle I loved...from the 1930's, the designs that made me drool...from
the 1930's.
Today I have almost
perfected my Retro Lifestyle, I wear 1930s clothing, I go to 1930's
dances and parties and my house looks just like a house would have
looked during those years.
It
is a great lifestyle, in a strange way we are the most polite and
well dressed "underground scene"...
